Because I'm too lazy - this is Seattle in Emily's words

It's September so that means the BYU football season is well underway. This past weekend I went to Seattle with some friends for the BYU/UW game. I don't go to many away games (because they always lose when I do), but I couldn't pass up the invitation from Carla to go experience a new place and take in a great game.Carla's friend, Tamra, let me, Carla, and Kim stay with her for the weekend and then we met up with some other friends once we got there.

Because I don't travel with the team much I don't know all the protocol...mainly that if you're a Cougar fan then you come dressed in your Cougar gear when you board the plane and you don't take it off until you return home. Everywhere we went all weekend there were crowds of people dressed head to toe in BYU paraphernalia. I only brought one BYU shirt to wear to the game. I guess I haven't met all the requirements to be inducted into the elite alumni crowd yet. Maybe next time.

Because I had never been to Seattle and I'm a huge fan of touristy stuff we spent Friday doing everything touristy that Seattle has to offer. We started off the day by going on an underground tour of the city. We learned about the seedy history of Seattle and its early settlers. These people were a little nuts and not very good city planners. We learned about everything from their sewage problems to prostitute rings. Our tour guide even threw in some Latter-day Saint jokes...not knowing that probably half the group was actually LDS. The tour was pretty funny, entertaining, and very informative. ;)

Next we went to the famous Pike's Place Market. We watched them toss fish around, sampled yummy produce, and even saw a disgusting gum wall.It was then time for lunch. Half of the group craved seafood, but the half of us who are grossed out by eating anything from the water kept it real and just went to Red Robin. But it was still on the pier and we had a lovely view of the harbor. :)

Then we went on a nice relaxing cruise around Elliott Bay, did some more shopping, eating, then went to the theater (we are so cultural!).

We saw "Shrek: The Musical." It made it's world premier in Seattle before opening on Broadway later this month. It was really cute. If you love the movie (which I do), then you will love the musical.

Saturday was game day. What a game!!! We sat in one of the many large BYU sections, had an awesome view of the water, a great view of the field, and had a blast screaming our guts out. The ending nearly killed me, but it was worth it. And I'm tired of hearing about how the refs won it for BYU because of the the controversial unsportsman call. The cougs won by Jan Jorgensen blocking a PAT...plain and simple, end of story!I love how Greg Wrubell put it on his blog, "Lost in Mark May and Lou Holtz's indignance is this minor fact: the flag on Jake Locker didn't take points off the board; it only made for a longer PAT. The Huskies only had to make a 35-yard kick to tie the game, and they failed to do so, because BYU players MADE A PLAY. Chris Fowler actually said UW "didn't get a chance" to play overtime because of the call. Wrong! The Huskies had a chance to get to overtime... by MAKING THE KICK!!"

Poor Carla is a UW alumni so she was cheering for them, but by the end she admitted she was just cheering for no overtime. Football is not her favorite past time so she was ready for the game to be over, but she was a great sport about it.

Saturday night after the game we went to the Space Needle. I still think it's a total rip to charge $16 to go to the top, but what are you going to do? I was in Seattle and had to see it. We hung out there for awhile, relished in the victory with the other fans there (seriously, they were EVERYWHERE), and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

Sunday we went to church, stopped by the temple, then headed for the airport. At the airport we ran into my man, #45, Harvey Unga! We stopped to talk to him and congragulated him on a great game, he introduced us to his cute fiance, and then was nice enough to take a picture with us. What a stud! I was tempted to ask him about the fumble in the end zone, but he was being so nice that I thought I shouldn't bring it up. hahaI really couldn't have asked for a better weekend...the weather was amazing, the city was fun, I have great friends, and oh yeah...BYU ROCKS!!!
